ST. LOUIS – The Saints were taken down in the final game of the three-game set with Quincy University, losing 9-1 on Monday afternoon.

The two teams exchanged scoreless innings in the first two frames, but the Hawks broke the game open with a five-run top of the third inning. They scored again in the top of the fifth to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Saints finally answered with one in the sixth inning when
Matt Schuler brought in a run with a bases-loaded walk. Visiting starting pitcher Jay Hammel got the next batter to pop out to get out of the jam with only one run allowed.

Quincy later responded with two in the eighth and one in the ninth to pair with scoreless work out of their bullpen. Cruz Meier slammed the door shut in the bottom of the ninth by striking out the side to seal up a 9-1 victory for his team.
