KANSAS CITY, Mo. –
Elias Stevens led the Saints to a 13-11 win over Rockhurst to open a four-game set, hitting a program-record three home runs while driving in six.
Rockhurst Recap
After a four-hit performance that included a home run on Wednesday evening,
Elias Stevens continued to swing a hot bat on Friday, connecting with a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. The Saints pushed across two more in the inning on a single from
Matt Schuler and a bases-loaded walk from
Brad Willis.
The Hawks got one back in the bottom of the first before Stevens took the first pitch he saw in the top of the second inning deep to left field for his second home run of the game and his sixth of the season.
Now up 6-2 in the third, the Maryville offense continued applying pressure.
Dominic Connolly brought home
Camden Ruby with a walk,
Joey Polak picked up an RBI with a ground out, and
Ben Hopkins singled to right field for two RBI to blow open the game.
Rockhurst continued to fight, however, posting two in the third, five in the fourth, and one in the seventh to pull the game even at 10-10.
Polak singled to start the eighth to bring up Stevens. The Ballwin, Missouri native worked the count to 2-2 before jumping on a fastball and taking it deep to right field for his program-record third home run of the game and team-leading seventh of the season to put the visitors ahead once again.
The teams exchanged runs over the next two innings.
Ben Prywitch, in his third inning of work, got a ground out and a pair of strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth to preserve a 13-11 final and the Saints' first Great Lakes Valley Conference victory of the season.
