SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Maryville University softball dropped a pair of contests to Drury University on Saturday, losing 2-0 in game one and 6-4 in game two.
Game 1 Recap
Game one was a pitcher's duel between
Emersen Heron and Kristina Bettis. Drury, however, took an early lead in the second inning after a single, a Saints error, and a wild pitch brought in the game's first run.
Heron tossed scoreless innings in the third and fourth innings before a solo home run in the fifth inning put the home team up 2-0. Unfortunately for the Saints, two runs were all that the Drury starter would need to earn the victory.
Erin Sammelman picked up Maryville's lone hit and a stolen base. Heron's final line included six innings, one earned run, five hits, and five strikeouts.

Game 2 Recap
Heron got the offense going in the first inning of game two with an RBI single that brought in
Taylor Shingler, who singled to lead off the inning. The Panthers then worked out of a jam with a strikeout, stranding runners on first and second base.
Down 4-1 in the top of the fifth, another Shingler single and a sacrifice bunt from
Taylor Duff got a runner in scoring position. Sammelman later got hit by a pitch, setting up
Brooklyn Moore's two-RBI double to left field to pull within one run.
A two-run bottom of the fifth put the Saints in a deeper hole, but they got one back in the sixth when
Sydney Dana picked up an RBI with a groundout to shortstop.
Karsyn Smith ended any hopes of a Maryville comeback in the top of the seventh to seal up a 6-4 Panther win and to earn the save.
