Parkside Wins Opener but Softball Saints Take Game Two 7-2

St. Louis - After Parkside won the opening game of the series 4-1, the Maryville softball team won game two 7-2. Taylor Duff hit a solo run in each game to pace the offense for the Saints.

Duff launched a solo home run to left center for a 1-0 Maryville lead after two innings. The Saints loaded the bases in the third but could not push home another run. The Rangers tied the game in the fourth and tacked on unearned two runs in the fifth. Parkside built its advantage to 4-1 in the top of the seventh. The Saints again loaded the bases but were unable to get a run home. Maryville recorded 10 hits in the game.

In game two, Taylor Shingler walked, took second on a wild pitch, and as the ball bounced away, she came all the way around to score for a 1-0 lead. Lexi Touchette doubled to open the second, and Melanie Nelson came on as a pinch runner. After a ground out, Brooklyn Moore doubled Nelson in for a 2-0 lead. Starting pitcher Olivia Jarvis helped herself with an RBI single to plate Moore.

The Rangers pulled two scores back in the top of the third but the Saints answered in the bottom of the frame on Duff's solo blast to left. Kylie Swinney singled, stole second, took third on a fly out and scored the fourth run of the game. The Saints closed the scoring in the fifth when Emersen Heron and Emily Corona both drove in runs. Jarvis recorded six strikeouts on the day to pick up the win.

The Saints (5-7) host Parkside for one more game Sunday, March 6, in a Noon start at the Maryville Athletic Complex.
