ST. LOUIS – Maryville softball dropped both games of a doubleheader with Lindenwood University on Sunday afternoon, losing 5-0 in game one and 4-1 in game two.

Starting pitcher
Reagan Smith got off to a good start with a scoreless first, but the Lions added one in the top of the second on a single to centerfield. Two more came home in the top of the third after an error set the stage for an RBI double.
The Saints' offense threatened with a quick answer in the bottom half when
Lexi Touchette walked with one out and
Taylor Shingler doubled one batter later. The runners, however, got caught in between bases leading to the second out. With a runner still at second, Lion pitcher Amanda Weyh got the next batter with a strikeout to work out of the jam.
In the fifth, the visitors continued to widen the gap after a pair of errors led to two runs. Now down five, the Maryville bats continued to struggle against the opposing pitcher, dropping the first game with a 5-0 final.

Lindenwood got out to another early lead in the second game with a pair of runs in the third. The Saints broke their offensive silence with a run on
Lexi Touchette's RBI single that brought home
Callie Harrison.
Maryville starting pitcher Emerson Heron and Marina Esparza were locked into a pitcher's duel throughout the game, but the Lions once again got the upper hand with two more in the fifth to widen their lead to 4-1.
After the fifth, Heron retired six of the next seven batters, but the home offense was unable to rally the bats for a late-inning comeback. She finished the day with seven strikeouts and three earned runs allowed over seven innings of work.
