McKendree Recap
Maryville starter
Ben Prywitch got off to a good start in the top of the first, working around a one-out double with no runs allowed. The offense gave him a lead in the bottom half after a
Brad Willis single started the inning, followed by
Joey Polak's sacrifice fly to left.
Â
In the bottom of the third, the home team widened their lead. A pair of walks and an
Alex Hoff single loaded the bases for
Andy Bunton who brought in another run with a walk. One batter later,
Nick Hofmann brought in two more with a single to left.
Â
McKendree got Prywitch for a run in the fourth with a solo home run, but that is all the damage they would do. The redshirt sophomore from Chesterfield, Missouri went on to finish his day with 5.2 innings pitched, one earned run allowed, and nine strikeouts.
Â
The Saints continued to pour it on in the sixth and seventh.
Dominic Connolly hit a deep home run to left field as a part of a fourth-run sixth. In the seventh, Polak singled home a run and
Elias Stevens ended the game in short-game fashion with a three-run blast on a hanging breaking ball. Â
Â
The 12-1 victory gave Maryville a 3-1 series win over McKendree and made them winners in seven of their last eight games.
