Springfield, Ill. - For the first time in program history, the Maryville men's tennis team defeated Illinois Springfield, downing the Prairie Stars 4-3. The Saints had been 0-5 all-time against UIS.

The Saints took the crucial doubles point by winning two of the three match ups.
Yann Frezouls and
Tom Schmitt emerged with a 6-4 win at No. 1, while
Mario Aleksic and
Sebastian Trigosso worked for a 7-6 (7-5) decision in a tiebreak at No. 3 doubles.

Aleksic posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 1 position, while Trigosso notched a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 5. UIS won three singles matches before the contest rode on the outcome of the match at No. 4 singles. Frezouls rallied for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win which was the match-winning point for the Saints.
