Lebanon, Ill. - The Maryville men's tennis was looking to topple No. 45 McKendree but the Bearcats downed the Saints 6-1 Saturday in Lebanon, Ill.
Jack Beuttell-Triggs and
Jose Hernandez nearly won their contest at No. 3 doubles but were edged out 7-5. McKendree took the other two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead in the team competition.
In singles action, the Saints dropped matches to two nationally-ranked opponents at the top two slots. Beuttell-Triggs rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles. However, that would be the only point on the day for Maryville.
Juan Suero won the second set at No. 6 singles but fell in the third set by a 10-8 margin.
The Saints will next be in action Friday, April 29, for the start of the 2022 Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
