St. Louis - The Maryville men's tennis team upset No. 1 seed Drury 4-3 in the quarterfinal of the 2022 GLVC Men's Tennis Tournament Friday at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. The victory is the first time Maryville has won a match at the GLVC Tennis Championships. The Saints, who are the No. 4 seed, face No. 2 McKendree in a match scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday.

Sebastian Trigosso won their No. 2 doubles match 6-2. However, Drury took the other two doubles matches and a 1-0 lead in the team competition.

Drury claimed the first singles point but Aleksic rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. The Panthers went back up 3-1 but
Yann Frezouls took a straight-set 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 5.
Jack Beuttell-Triggs rallied for crucial victory at No. 2 with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 scoreline to tie the match at 3-3.

The match hinged on the outcome of Trigosso's tilt at No. 4. He won the first set 7-5, dropped the second 4-6, but emerged with the match-winning point with a 6-3 victory in the third set as the Saints beat the No. 57 ranked Panthers 4-3.
