KANSAS CITY – Maryville baseball earned a split with William Jewell College for the second consecutive day on Saturday, taking game one 6-2 before losing a slugfest 12-11 in game two.  
 
Game One Recap
Brad Willis started the scoring on Saturday afternoon with a two-out RBI double in the top of the third inning to bring in Nick Hofmann who doubled one at-bat prior. Dominic Connolly plated Willis with the Saints' third consecutive double to extend the lead to 2-0.
 
One day after breaking Maryville's career home run record, Joey Polak added another three-run blast to the tally in the top of the fifth inning to extend his team's lead. Catcher Elias Stevens went back-to-back with him after taking a 1-2 offering over the right-field wall to put the home team in a six-run deficit.
 
Starting pitcher Ben Prywitch, now with a huge lead, continued to blank the Cardinals through the first six innings. The redshirt sophomore from Chesterfield, Missouri gave up two in the seventh before finishing off a complete-game victory with six strikeouts and eight hits allowed.

Game Two Recap
The Saints kept the offense working early in the second game. Both Willis and Connolly came home to score on a groundout and an error after starting the inning with hits.
 
William Jewell responded in the bottom of the second with a three-run home run to take their first lead of the afternoon. Maryville quickly took that lead back in the third on an RBI double from Polak who came around to score a few batters later on a wild pitch.
 
Still trailing 4-3 in the fifth, the Cardinals found five runs to blow open a lead. They added another in the sixth to make it a 9-4 ballgame. The Saints posted two in the top of the seventh, but the home team continued to pile on runs in the bottom half to push it to 12-6.
 
With time quickly running out in the eighth, the Saints loaded the bases with no outs. Hofmann took advantage of the opportunity and drove in a pair with a double down the right-field line. Willis added the ninth run with a single, Connolly the 10^th with an RBI groundout, and Polak with the 11^th on a sacrifice fly to center.
 
The Cardinals worked out of the jam without surrendering their lead, however, and retired the side in order in the top of the ninth to down Maryville 12-11 in the final game of the series.
