EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Maryville softball dropped a pair of road games to the University of Southern Indiana on Saturday afternoon, losing 5-1 in game one and 5-3 in game two.

Game one recap
The Screaming Eagles started the scoring with an RBI fielder's choice in the bottom of the first inning.
Isabella Garcia singled with one out in the second and her pinch runner,
Emily Corona, came home to score on
Erin Sammelmann's RBI groundout to tie the game.

After getting blanked in the bottom of the second, Southern Indiana took a 3-1 lead in the third and added another run in the fourth inning to widen the gap to three runs. Now with a cushion, the home starting pitcher went on to retire 15 of the next 17 hitters to finish off the Saints in game one.

Game two recap
The second game got off to a quiet start through the first two innings, but USI broke the silence with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.

Taylor Shingler got hit by a pitch to lead off the top of the fourth and advanced to third on
Taylor Duff's double to left-center field to bring up
Kylie Swinney. Swinney laid down a bunt that was thrown away by the first baseman to bring home both runners on base. A few batters later,
Callie Harrison stepped to the plate with two outs and gave the Saints their first lead of the afternoon with another RBI double.

Maryville starter
Olivia Jarvis set down the side in order in the top of the fourth, but found trouble in the fifth. A lead-off walk and a one-out single set the stage for a three-run inning to put the Screaming Eagles up 5-3.

USI went on to seal up a 5-3Â win over the next two innings by setting down the next six Saints' batters consecutively. Â
