ST. LOUIS – Maryville baseball began a six-game road trip with a 6-2 loss at Missouri Western State University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Griffons jumped on the Saints to begin the first five innings. Starting pitcher Zack Cushing set down the first 17 batters he faced and the offense backed him with five runs.
 
Maryville broke up the no-hit bid in the top of the sixth with two outs on a Jackson Burrell single to centerfield. Relief pitcher Drake Downing set down in the side in order in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to keep the game at 5-0.
 
Now in a six-run deficit to begin the ninth, the Saints attempted to mount a comeback when singles from Michael Gould and Jamie Young set the stage for an Elias Stevens RBI groundout. Two batters later, Matt Schuler brought in another run to cut the lead to four.
 
Cushing, going for the complete game, finished off the next two visiting hitters with runners on base to seal up a 6-2 win for his club. The Saints' record is now 14-14 after dropping their last three contests.
