Baseball Finishes Off Sweep of UMSL on Final Day of Regular Season

ST. LOUIS – The Saints finished off a sweep of the University of Missouri–St. Louis to end the regular season with their eighth consecutive win on Sunday afternoon. The Maryville offense exploded for 13 runs against the Tritons fueled by a four-RBI day from Brad Willis and a grand slam from Elias Stevens.

UMSL Recap
The Maryville offense came ready to play on Sunday, pushing across four runs in the top of the first on a two-RBI single from Michael Gould, an error, and a wild pitch. They plated another un in the top of the second after Nick Hofmann singled, stole second, and scored on an RBI groundout from Brad Willis.

Jamie Young worked two scoreless innings to begin his day on the mound but surrendered a run in the third on a single, a wild pitch, and another single.

Andy Bunton reached base to lead off the inning in the fourth followed by walks from Willis and Dominic Connolly. With a chance to blow the game wide open, catcher Elias Stevens ripped a grand slam down the left-field line for his 13th home run of the season.

The Saints continued to pour it on with a two-RBI double from Willis in the fifth and two more runs in the seventh to put the Saints on the verge of a short-game victory. The Tritons battled to avoid a mercy-rule loss, scratching across two in the seventh, but Geo Camfield got a strikeout to record the final out of the game.
