St. Louis - The Maryville field hockey team claimed the first victory in program history with a 2-1 win over Lindenwood Saturday afternoon.
Tia Sansone scored a goal, including the game winner, and added an assist.
Liz Bierhals made nine saves on the day, including six in the final quarter, to notch the win in net.

What Happened
Delanie Winkelmann scored the first goal in program history when she tipped in a shot from Sansone for a 1-0 Maryville lead. The Saints held the lead for the rest of the first half and took a 1-0 edge into the break.

Early in the third, the Saints doubled their lead through Sansone. Maryville took control in its defensive end and pushed the ball up the middle of the field.
Skyler Turiello launched a pass ahead, and Sansone tapped the ball in for a 2-0 advantage. The visiting Lions opened the fourth quarter with a rush and cut the Maryville lead down to 2-1. Lindenwood kept up the barrage with 10 shots in the quarter but Bierhals and the Maryville defense held on for the historic victory.
