Gaffney, S.C. – The Maryville field hockey team won its second straight contest with a 1-0 victory at Limestone. Delanie Winkelmann tallied the game-winning goal in the third quarter, and Liz Bierhals made three saves to post the shutout. The contest was the first road game for the first-year program.
 
Limestone took four shots in the first period but Bierhals kept Maryville level. The Maryville offense put up three shots in the second as the game remained scoreless at halftime. Limestone carried the play early in the third quarter but Maryville stuck in the 41st minute. Winkelmann fired in her second goal of the season, which was her second straight game winner.
 
Limestone looked to drew even and earned a penalty corner midway through the fourth. The hosts put a shot on cage but Bierhals saved the shot and preserved the one-goal lead. Maryville fended off another penalty corner and held on to record the victory.
 
Maryville improved to 2-1 on the season, while Limestone dropped to 1-2. The Saints continue their road swing and play at Newberry College Friday, Sept. 16.
