Spartanburg, S.C. – Playing its first nationally ranked team, the Maryville field hockey team was dealt a 4-0 defeat at No. 10 Converse University Sunday morning.

Saints goalie Liz Biehals came up with three straight saves to start the game before Converse pushed the game's opening goal across the line. Maryville earned a penalty corner midway through the first quarter but was unable to generate a shot. The Valkyries added onto their lead with two scores early in the second to grab a 3-0 lead at the break.

The third quarter saw the Saints hold Converse off the board but the Valkryies added another goal in the fourth. Maryville pressed forward and earned two penalty corners. The Saints had their best scoring chance but
Gwen Oudesluys's shot hit the post and bounced away.

Maryville stands at 2-3, while Converse remains unbeaten at 5-0. The Saints return home for their next action as they host Mansfield Saturday, Sept. 24, in a Noon start.
