St. Louis - The Maryville field hockey team played its inaugural game but was edged out 2-0 by Frostburg State Sunday afternoon. Saints goalie Liz Bierhals was outstanding in the cage and finished with 11 saves on the day.
 
What Happened
The Bobcats controlled the ball early and earned multiple penalty corners. The Maryville defense kept the visitors off the scoreboard. Maryville had its first scoring chance when Dodrothy Fife collected a pass and fired a shot on target. However, the score remained scoreless through the first quarter.
 
Early in the second, Frostburg State took the lead on a shot into the lower left of the cage. The game remained 1-0 until FSU doubled its lead in the third quarter on a shot that deflected off Maryville goalie Liz Bierhals. The Saints pressed for their first goal in the fourth quarter but were turned aside by the FSU defense.
