St. Charles, Mo. - The Maryville wrestling squad competed at the Lindenwood Open Saturday against a field loaded with numerous NCAA Division I wrestlers in the Gold Division.

At 133,
JP Homfeld defeated an opponent from Illinois but was defeated by a DI wrestler from SIUE. In the consolation bracket, he notched a fall in 4:53 but was eliminated by yet another Division I foe from Little Rock. In the 157 classification,
Luke Ebers won his opener via an 18-3 tech fall but lost his next two matches.

Cole Ritter battled through the consolation draw to reach the fifth-place match at 165. He dropped his first match to a Division I foe but bounced back with a 3-2 decision over an opponent from Indiana. Ritter continued his tourney by a 5-2 win and a resounding 19-0 tech fall. However, he dropped his final two consolation draw matches and finished in sixth place.

Jeremiah Larson reached the semifinals at 197 before taking sixth place in the weight class. He pinned an opponent from Illinois then advanced to the semis with a 7-3 decision. Larson lost to another foe from Illinois before getting eliminated in the back draw.

In the heavyweights,
Ryan Herman started his day with a 13-1 major over McKendree's Tyler Haynes. Herman followed with a 4-1 decision to advance to the semifinals. He lost to Konner Doucet from DI Oklahoma State, then was edged by a foe from Arkansas. Herman closed his tournament with a 2-1 victory in the fifth-place match.
The Saints are next in action Saturday, Dec. 2, when they take part in the Jim Koch Parkside Open hosted in Kenosha, Wis.
