Romeoville, Ill. - The Maryville women's basketball team led for a majority of the game at Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason pick Lewis but the Flyers held on to edge the Saints 72-71. The Saints had a look at a game-tying 3-pointer in the waning seconds but converted the subsequent layup with under one second left to end the game.
Carsyn Fearday led four Maryville players in double figures with 16 points.
Antoinette Mussorici and
Faith Hawthorne both finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Lewis recap
The Saints scored eight straight points to grab an early 13-5 lead. The Flyers came back to within 18-16 by the end of the first quarter. Mussorici scored on a driving layup for a 33-27 margin in the second. Lewis hit a 3-pointer just before halftime to cut the Maryville advantage to just 37-36.

Fearday converted back-to-back jumpers as the Saints rebuilt a 41-36 cushion. The margin was still 48-43 with six minutes left in the third quarter. Lewis took its first lead since the early minute of the game at 50-48 with 2:17 in the third. Fearday and
Haidyn Pitsch sank buckets as Maryville went back in front 52-50 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Gracie Stugart had a steal and layup for a 56-53 lead at the 8:42 mark. The Flyers went back ahead and slowly took a 63-58 advantage. The Saints were down 72-66 but made a late charge. Fearday had a three-point play to trim the gap in half. Maryville's defense forced a steal but misfired on a trey that would have tied the game.
Karlee Feldman grabbed the carom and her layup pulled the Saints to within one. However, the Saints never got the ball back as Lewis escaped. Â
