LEBANON, Ill. – Maryville University fell 1-0 on the road at McKendree University in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Quarterfinals on Sunday afternoon. A first-half goal from Jay Sangha gave the Bearcats the win, despite a ton of offensive pressure from the Saints in the second half.
Run of Play:
- Mason Crew missed high on a shot attempt 28 seconds into the game as did Jimmy Doherty in the 12th minute.
- The Bearcats scored on their first shot on goal of the game, with Jay Sangha collecting his second of the year in the low-right corner.
- The Saints tested McKendree keeper Christian Herluf for the first time in the 38th minute when Quinn Connolly put one on goal to his left.
- Yayo Mutombo sent one over the crossbar early in the second half, followed by shots from Tim Smith and Gavin Kalish.
- In the 68th minute, Luca Bartoni forced Herluf to make another save, as did Mutombo in the 83rd minute.
- In total, Maryville outshot the Bearcats 11-1 in the second half with four more shots on goal.
- Herluf made one last save on a desperation attempt from Crew in the final seconds of the game to end a 1-0 shutout.
