ALBERTVILLE, Ala. – Maryville University softball took down Kentucky State University 9-2 on the second day of the Charger Chillout Tournament on Saturday. The Saints used timely hitting and six Thorobred errors to move to 3-4 before their second game of the day was canceled due to weather.

After a pair of RBI on Friday,
Erin Sammelmann picked up another on Saturday in the first inning by plating
Emily Corona for a 1-0 lead.
Mandi Lenon walked later in the inning and came around to score on a
Melanie Nelson single to third base a few hitters later.

Junior starting pitcher
Chayse Ramey kept the Thorobreds quiet through the first three innings, and her offense continued to tack on in the bottom of the third. Sammelmann led off with a single to center field and Lenon followed up by reaching on a fielder's choice. An error, however, allowed both runners to come home to score for a 4-0 advantage.

Ramey continued to deal in the fourth with two more strikeouts before the Thorobreds struck for their first run in the fifth. Maryville got that run back quickly with an
Isabella Garcia single to shortstop to plate
Tori Forbeck in the bottom half.

Emersen Heron took over for Ramey in the sixth after allowing three hits and two earned runs with eight strikeouts. Heron finished the job with a pair of scoreless innings and four strikeouts to secure a 9-2 win for the Saints.
