NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Maryville softball got back to a .500 record after finishing the final day of the Music City Invitational 2-0 on Sunday. The Saints took down Ashland University 7-5 in game one before defeating tournament host Trevecca Nazarene 5-2 in game two behind a complete game win from
Emersen Heron. Â

Ashland University opened the first inning with a pair of runs off Maryville starter
Chayse Ramey, but the Saints retaliated in the bottom half with a pair of runs on an Eagle error.

The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the second when
Lexi Touchette singled up the middle to lead off the inning.
Caitlin Rodriguez advanced the pinch runner to third with a single and forced a throwing error with a stolen base allowing the run to score.
Melanie Nelson brought the run in from third a few hitters later with a single to right field to extend the lead to 4-2.

In the third, Maryville added another run on an RBI triple from
Kylie Swinney to bring home
Emersen Heron. Swinney later scored on a Rodriguez single to center field.

Ashland cut the deficit to three with an RBI triple of their own in the fifth, but
Isabella Garcia got that run back for the Saints in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI single.
Reagan Smith wrapped up a Saints win in the circle in the seventh.

Ramey picked up her fourth win of the season to move to 4-3 after allowing four hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts over four innings. Smith allowed two earned over three innings in relief with one strikeout.

Trevecca Nazarene Recap
Taylor Shingler and Nelson started off Sunday's second game with consecutive singles. Both runners came home to score on Swinney's second RBI triple of the day to left center. After working out of the jam without any more runs in the top of the first, Trevecca Nazarene plated two in the bottom half to tie the game.

The game remained tied at 2-2 through the sixth, but the Saints broke through in the seventh.
Carly Nolde, Heron, and Rodriguez all singled to load the bases for
Taylor Duff. Duff stepped in with one out and brought home a run with a single. A wild pitch pushed the lead to 4-2, and Maryville got their fifth run on a Trojan error.

Heron shut out TNU in the bottom of the seventh to finish off a 5-2 victory for the game. In total, the sophomore from Edmond, Okla., posted nine hits and two earned with one strikeout in the complete game win.
