St. Louis – Despite a season-high 17 points from
Trey Redd, the Maryville men's basketball team lost its final regular season contest 72-56 to visiting McKendree.
Ben Palacios added 13 points to the Saints attack.

Jaeden Smith scored on a driving layup to cut McKendree's lead to 21-17 in the first half. The Bearcats tallied nine of the next 12 points with Smith's 3-pointer Maryville's only offense. Palacios and
Dewayne Vass scored just before halftime as the Bearcats took a 35-24 edge.

The Saints scored eight straight points early after the break to trim the deficit to single digits.
Tutu Chisholm sparked the run with a layup, and Palacios sank two free throws. After another bucket by Vass, Redd drove down the lane for a layup that pulled the Saints to within 40-32. Maryville chipped away at the deficit with an 11-5 run. Chisholm worked in the lane for a layup that pulled the Saints within one possession at 50-47 with just under 10 minutes to play. McKendree reeled off a 15-3 run to take control of the contest as the Saints were unable to pull the gap back to single digits.

The Saints await a bid to the 2023 GLVC Tournament pending results of league games Saturday. The tourney will be held at Hyland Arena on the campus of Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
