Tiemann Fires in School-Record Eight Goals as Saints Move Past McKendree 20-8

Lebanon, Ill. – It was a record-setting night for Sydney Tiemann as she scored a school-record eight goals as the Maryville women's lacrosse team moved past McKendree 20-8. The victory is the fourth straight for the Saints, the longest in program history, and already matches the school record for wins in a season. During the game, Tiemann also set the single season record for goals with 27 and her 30 points are a new program mark.

After the Bearcats scored the opening goal, Tiemann pulled the Saints even. Julia Banfield put Maryville ahead 2-1 and Tiemann tacked on another for a 3-1 lead. McKendree pulled one goal back but the Saints took control with eight unanswered goals. Tiemann scored with five seconds left in the first, and she opened the second with a score just 31 seconds in.
 
Banfield recorded her second on the night before Jessie Hynes tallied back-to-back goals. Helen Bae notched her first of the night before Tiemann fired in consecutive scores as the Saints surged to an 11-2 advantage. McKendree rallied with three straight goals to make it 11-5 at halftime.
 
The Bearcats started the third with three more goals to pull to within 11-7 at the 10-minute mark. However the Saints responded by reeling off six unanswered scores to break the game open. Hynes completed a hat trick at the 9:32 mark. After another Tiemann score, Hynes notched two more goals to push her output on the night to five. Bae and Reagan Rukstad scored as the Saints built a 10-goal advantage and cruised to their fourth straight win to open the season.
 
Jo Miles stopped nine shots on the night to pick up the win in the cage. The Saints had 20 of the 31 draw controls on the night and forced the Bearcats into 16 turnovers.
