Women's Lacrosse Posts First Win Over Ranked Team with 15-12 Victory at No. 11 Grand Valley State

Allendale, Mich. – For the first time in program history, the Maryville women's lacrosse team defeated a ranked squad as the Saints recorded a 15-12 victory at No. 11 Grand Valley State. The Saints scored seven times in the second quarter to grab control of the contest. Sydney Tiemann tallied seven goals, while Jessie Hynes had a hat trick and two assists. Helen Bae also scored three times, while goalie Jo Miles stopped six shots. The Saints extend their school record winning streak to nine games.

The teams traded the first four goals of the game before GVSU edged ahead 4-2. Bae scored with 1:28 left in the first quarter. After winning the draw control, Hynes fired in her second of the day to tie the score at 4-4 after one. Tiemann tallied to straight goals to push Maryville ahead 6-4. The Lakers pulled to within 6-5 but the Saints reeled off five unanswered goals. Tiemann scored at the 7:23 mark, and Skyler Jolie tallied for an 8-5 edge. Tiemann rifled in two more scores, and Hynes's goal built an 11-5 advantage. Grand Valley State scored late as Maryville took an 11-6 edge into the break.
 
Bae sandwiched goals around two from GVSU as the Saints maintained a 13-8 cushion. Tiemann extended the margin to 14-8 at the 5:17 mark. The Lakers put in two goals late in the third to trim the Maryville lead to 14-10 entering the fourth quarter. GVSU scored twice early in the final quarter as the Maryville margin stood at 14-12 with 12:56 to play. Both defenses clamped down and did not allow a score for more than 10 minutes. Tiemann gave the Saints some breathing room with a free-position goal with exactly two minutes left in the game. Maryville won the following draw control and did not allow a shot the rest of the way.
