Baseball Completes Four-Game Sweep of No. 21 Indianapolis

ST. LOUIS – Maryville University baseball finished off a road four-game sweep of No. 21 Indianapolis on Sunday afternoon. Jamie Young's 10-strikeout performance in game one led the Saints to a 12-1 win while home runs from Zeb Roos, Matt Schuler, and Stephen Randazzo gave their team a 13-3 win in game two.

Game One Recap
Lead-off man Jack Zebig started game one with a double down the right-field line. A ground out advanced him to third and Matt Schuler drove him in with an RBI single. The Greyhounds responded in the bottom half with a run on a walk, a double, and an RBI single to third base.

Two hit batters in the second put Camden Ruby and Andy Bunton on first and second. A double steal moved them into scoring position and Michael Gould brought them in with a two-RBI single. Gould then stole second before a Zeb Roos two-run home run opened a 5-1 lead.

On the mound, Maryville starter Jamie Young settled in from there and retired the next 15 batters he faced. In total, the right-hander from Melbourne, Australia, posted six innings of work with 10 strikeouts and just the lone earned run. The offense exploded behind him as well, posting four more runs in the sixth and three more in the top of the seventh.

Pat Evers called upon Geo Camfield to close out the game in the seventh. He got the first two outs before UIndy loaded the bases. Camfield buckled down, however, getting the final batter to ground out to end a 12-1 game-three win for Maryville.

Game Two Recap
The Saints' offense continued its momentum into game two. Gould doubled and scored in the first on a Roos RBI groundout. Later in the inning, Schuler picked up an RBI single while Stephen Randazzo and Bunton both plated runs with bases-loaded walks to open an early 4-0 lead.
Ryan Louck kept the Greyhounds quiet in his first two innings of work on the mound and Gould continued his big day with an RBI single through the left side to score Zebig. UIndy responded in the third with a pair of runs.

Still holding a 5-2 lead in the top of the fifth, Zebig and Gould continued to get on base at the top of the order with a single and a double, respectively. UIndy got the next two hitters out before Schuler stepped up and clubbed a three-run shot, his third of the 2023 season.

Louck finished off his fifth inning and final inning of work in the bottom half when his 88th pitch of the afternoon got him strikeout number five. In total, the graduate student finished with two earned, five strikeouts, and seven hits over five innings.

Maryville continued to pad the lead in the sixth by clubbing a pair of home runs. Roos plated Zebig with a two-run home run early in the inning and Randazzo drove in Schuler with a two-run blast to left with two outs.

The Saints' bullpen took it from there. Two innings from Nick Schmidt and a scoreless ninth from Ryan Hoshaw finished off a 13-3 win and a four-game sweep of No. 21 Indianapolis.
