St. Louis – It was a record setting night as the Maryville University men's volleyball team posted its second win over University Health Sciences & Pharmacy in two weeks with a 25-21, 25-18, 29-27 decision in Moloney Arena.
Joe Nicometo keyed the triumph with a school-record 25 kills in the match. The Saints set a single-match record with a .427 hitting percentage.
Cameron Chambers went over 1,000 career assists during the contest.

The Saints scored four straight points to build an 18-14 in the opening set. USHP closed the gap to two on three occasions but the Saints had an answer each time. Up 23-21,
Drew Rogers cranked in a kill, and a setting error handed Maryville the 25-21 set win. The Saints hit .438 in the first set but had to overcome a USHP attack that did not commit an error in the set.
Set two was tied at 8-8 before the Saints went on a 5-1 burst.
David Fleischer had a kill and an ace to spark the run. After a
Caden Klingbeil kill, USHP committed two miscues for a 13-9 Maryville edge. Still up 14-11, the Saints tallied three unanswered points to build a 17-11 cushion. USHP cut its deficit to three before the Saints closed on a 5-1 run, capped by a
Cole Torrence kill for a 25-18 decision.
The Saints were down by as many as six points in the third set but gradually closed the gap. Rogers had a kill to spark a 5-1 run that was closed out on a Klingbeil kill for 19-17. The margin was still 23-20 but the Saints ripped off four straight points to get to match point.
David Fleischer had back-to-back service aces to push Maryville to match point at 24-23. However, USH saved four straight match points. Fleischer's kill gave the Saints their fifth chance to end the match, and the Maryville defense forced USHP into a hitting error at 29-27 to end the contest.
