ST. LOUIS – Home runs from
Trace Berggren and
Elias Stevens helped Maryville baseball to a 4-0 win over Principia College on Wednesday. Berggren, a graduate student from Ottawa, Ill., picked up his first career hit with a towering two-run blast in the sixth.

Maryville starting pitcher
Noah Leingang opened the game in the top of the first by working around a one-out single before Principia retired the Saints in order in the bottom of the first. Leingang completed a scoreless two-inning outing with a 1-2-3 top of the second.

In the bottom of the second,
Jacob Hager reached first on a Panther error and advanced to third on a
Matt Schuler double down the left-field line.
Stephen Randazzo did his job in the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right field to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

Geo Camfield pitched a scoreless frame for his club in the third and
Elias Stevens hit a solo home run in the bottom half to double the lead. Later in the sixth inning, still up 2-0,
Michael Long led off with a walk to bring up pinch hitter
Trace Berggren who drilled a two-run shot over the right field wall.

On the mound, Maryville used a combination of scoreless outings from
Braden Barnard,
Ryan Hoshaw, and
Drake Downing to complete a 4-0 shutout victory over Principia. Barnard and Hoshaw each had five strikeouts and Downing struck out the side to slam the door in the top of the ninth.
