Baseball Earns Series Split with No. 20 UIS

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Maryville University baseball wrapped up a four-game series with the 20th-ranked University of Illinois Springfield with a Saturday split. The Saints took game one 12-4 before dropping game two with a 12-10 final.

Game One Recap
Illinois Springfield took a game-one lead in the third on a solo home run. Matt Schuler followed up with a leadoff home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game before another UIS solo home run in the bottom half.

In the fifth, Michael Long singled to lead off the inning and came home on Michael Gould's two-run home run. Zeb Roos walked in the next at-bat for Elias Stevens who added another two-run home run to make it 5-2 Maryville.

A fielder's choice in the sixth and an RBI single from Gould extended the lead to five. UIS tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and put the pressure on in the bottom of the seventh with two more runs.

After a rocky start to the inning, Ben Prywitch recovered by getting a strikeout, a fly out to center field, and a strikeout looking to end a 7-6 win for his club. Starter Jamie Young picked up his fourth win of the season behind 5.1 innings, four earned, seven hits, and seven strikeouts.
