Lexi Touchette collected a home run and five RBI in a 10-2 game two Maryville win over Southwest Baptist University on Sunday. The Saints dropped game one 7-2 before home runs from Touchette and
Emersen Heron lifted them to a win in the second game. Â

Game One Recap
The Saints opened the scoring in the top of the first when
Emily Corona singled, stole second, and came home on
Erin Sammelmann's RBI double. They threatened to score again in the third when
Taylor Shingler singled on a bunt and stole second, but the Bearcats worked out the jam.

SBU hammered a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to open a 2-1 lead. In the fourth, the Bearcats posted five runs on two errors and two hits, including a two-run home run.

Maryville tried to climb the mountain in the top of the seventh, loading the bases with two outs. Corona put a ball in play that was mishandled by SBU to allow a run to score. The Bearcats closed up a 7-2 win in the next at-bat, however, getting Sammelmann to fly out to end the game.

Game Two Recap
Emersen Heron took the ball in game two for the Saints, beginning her start with five scoreless innings of work. She got run support in the third on Corona's RBI single to right and helped herself with an RBI single in the inning as well.

After adding another run on an error in the fourth, the Saints tacked on three more in the fifth on a two-RBI single from
Lexi Touchette and another RBI single from Shingler.

Maryville continued piling on in the sixth on a one-out solo home run from Heron and a three-run blast from Touchette with two outs. SBU hit their third two-run home run of the afternoon in the sixth, but it would not be enough to avoid a 10-2 mercy-rule loss.

Heron picked up her 12
th win of the 2023 campaign, going the full six innings while allowing five hits and two earned with three strikeouts.
