UIndy Pushes Past Saints in Fourth Quarter of GLVC Title Game

Indianapolis – In the championship game of the 2023 Great Lakes Valley Conference Women's Lacrosse Tournament, Maryville fell just short of the title as Indianapolis used a big fourth quarter to fell the Saints 13-8. Jessie Hynes paced the Maryville offense with a hat trick. Jo Miles tied her career high with 16 saves in the nets.

Jessie Hynes gave the Saints a quick lead as she tallied just 43 seconds into the game. UIndy drew even less than a minute later. Lexi Taylor converted a free position shot to push the Saints back ahead at the 12:47 mark. The Greyhounds deadlocked the score again at 2-2. Reagan Rukstad fired in a goal as Maryville went back ahead 3-2. However, UIndy scored all three goals in the second quarter and took a 5-3 edge into the break.
 
Helen Bae returned the Saints to the scoresheet with a free position attempt. Both defenses took over and kept two of the highest scoring offenses in check. UIndy built its edge back to 6-4 moving into the final quarter. Jessie Hynes found the back of the net only 17 ticks into the fourth quarter to trim the UIndy advantage to just one at 6-5. UIndy restored a two-goal edge but Hynes scored in transition to pull Maryville back to 7-6 with 12:29 remaining in the game. However, there was a 40-minute lighting delay with 11:19 to go.
 
However, when the game resumed, the Saints were stopped on the offensive end during a player-up advantage. The Greyhounds tacked on three straight goals to snare a 10-6 cushion. Jolie took a feed from Sydney Tiemann and her backhand goal pulled the Saints to within 10-7 with 4:12 to play. Maryville earned the ensuing draw control but misfired on a free position attempt with three minutes remaining. UIndy tallied on its next possession to seal the victory and earn the GLVC title.

What's Next?
The Saints will await their NCAA Tournament fate as the official tourney announcement will be the evening of Sunday, May 7. Maryville was slotted third in the last Midwest Regional ranking.
