ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Maryville University softball had a nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday after losing a pair of games to sixth-ranked Indianapolis. The Saints dropped game one 8-0 in five innings before losing 6-1 in game two.

Game One Recap
Emersen Heron toed the rubber for the Saints in game one and held the Greyhounds quiet through the first two innings. Maryville picked up their first hit with a two-out single by
Emily Corona, but UIndy got the next batter to strike out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the third, the home team hit a two-run home run to open a 2-0 lead. They added a three-run home run in the fourth to extend the lead to five.

The Saints got the leadoff runner on in the top of the fifth with a
Taylor Duff walk, but UIndy got a double play to clear the bases.
Taylor Shingler then stepped in with two outs, walked, and got thrown out stealing second base to end the inning.

The Greyhounded added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game with an 8-0 final.

Game Two Recap
UIndy continued hitting home runs to begin the second game. Megan Nichols hit a solo home run in the first and a two-run home run in the third to put her team ahead 3-0.

Melanie Nelson led off the top of the fourth with a double and moved to third on an
Erin Sammelmann single up the middle. Still with no outs,
Kylie Swinney stepped in and brought in the run with a single to the pitcher. UIndy prevented any more damage with a fielder's choice followed by a double play.

Maryville, still trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the fifth, put the lead-off runner on with a hit-by-pitch and she eventually came around to steal home with two outs. Indianapolis tallied two more in the sixth and closed out the game in the seventh to end game two at 6-1.
