Quincy Eliminates Maryville From GLVC Tournament After a 14-Inning Win Over Jewell

MARION, Ill. – Maryville University baseball won in 14 innings over William Jewell College on Saturday before getting eliminated from the GLVC Tournament by Quincy University in game two. The Saints defeated the Cardinals 11-9 after a five-run outburst in the 14th inning to stay alive for an evening match against Quincy. The Hawks ended Maryville's tournament run with a 12-8 win.

William Jewell Recap
Jacob Hager put the Saints on top in the first inning with a three-run shot off William Jewell starter Jake MacDonald. Jack Zebig and Zeb Roos both singled in front of him before Hager launched a ball over the left field wall at Mtn Dew Park.

A solo home run from Stephen Randazzo in the fourth put the Saints up 4-0. It was the senior's second home run in three games of the GLVC Tournament. Maryville tacked on two more in the top of the ninth to open a 6-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the inning.

On the mound, Ryan Louck got the start and went seven innings, allowing two earned on seven hits with seven strikeouts.

Trailing 6-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth after a lightning delay, the Cardinals rallied for four runs on four hits against the Maryville bullpen.

Ben Gregory came on in relief for the Saints in the 10th and worked 4.2 innings, picking up four strikeouts. He held the Cardinals quiet through his first few innings, buying time for a five-run top of the 14th from the offense.

Zeb Roos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in the first run, Hager singled home two more, Jackson Burrell worked a bases-loaded walk, and Andy Bunton brought in the 11th run with a sacrifice fly.

WJC continued to fight, posting three in the bottom of the 14th, but Gregory finished off his fifth win of the campaign with a groundout to second.
