ST. LOUIS – Five home runs from the Maryville University offense propelled an 18-8 Senior Day win over Missouri S&T on Sunday.

Camden Ruby all went deep after the Saints fell into an early 4-0 hole in the first inning.

Missouri S&T got right to it in the top of the first with a leadoff single, a double, and an RBI groundout. The next batter was hit by a pitch in front of Sam Monroe who hit a three-run blast to put the Miners up 4-0 before the offense had a chance to come to the plate.

Jacob Hager cut the lead in half. Roos then stole his first of five bases on the day and came in on
Matt Schuler's RBI single.

The visitors added two more in the top of the second, held the Saints quiet in the bottom half, and tallied another run in the top of the third.

Michael Gould got a rally started in the bottom of the third with a single in front of
Elias Stevens who hammered a ball onto the track at the Maryville Soccer Field to pull within two. Later in the inning, Schuler stepped in with a pair of runners on and hit a tape-measure home run deep into the woods behind the right field wall to put the Saints ahead 8-7. They still were not done in the inning, capping off a seven-run third on a two-run home run from sophomore outfielder
Camden Ruby.

The Miners slugged a two-run home run in the fifth, but the Saints responded with four in the bottom half on an RBI single from
Jack Zebig and a three-run home run from
Michael Gould to put him at 10 in 2023.

Trace Berggren brought in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, Zebig hit a solo home run to lead-off off the seventh, and Stevens scored an unearned run after stealing third base in the same inning.

In the eighth, Maryville loaded the bases for Roos who singled home the runner from third to end an 18-8 mercy rule victory on Senior Day.
