Bolivar, Mo. – For the third time this season, the Maryville volleyball team recorded a reverse sweep by virtue of a 22-25, 15-25, 25-21, 25-20, 15-13 win at Southwest Baptist.
Ella Brinkmann led the way with 16 kills and 17 digs, while
Caroline Glastetter added 13 kills.
Taylor Hasbrook finished with a season-high 29 digs. Both Saints setters recorded double-doubles as
Abbie Schnell notched 25 assists and 12 digs, while
Rachel Schipper was credited with 23 assists and 11 digs.
Southwest Baptist recap
The host Bearcats had their two highest hitting percentages in the first two sets, while the Saints had their two lowest as SBU grabbed a 2-0. Down 7-2 in the third, the Saints mounted their comeback with a 7-0 burst to take the lead. A Glastetter kill started the run, and an SBU error handed the Saints a 9-7 lead. Maryville still led 16-15 but took control with four straight points.
Taylor Keck's kill gave the Saints their first set win. Set three was tied at 19-all until Keck and Glastetter had back-to-back kills. An ace by Schnell and an SBU miscue put the Saints ahead 23-20. Maryville pulled even with a 25-20 win to force a fifth set.
The Bearcats surged in front to start the fifth se at 7-3. The Saints closed the gap with three consecutive points. After an SBU error,
Makenna Brauman and Brinkmann had consecutive kills to bring the deficit to 7-6. Maryville finally tied the score at 10-all. SBU went up 13-12 before the Saints closed the match with three straight points. After a Bearcat error,
Hanna Dressing and
Caroline Glastetter put up a block to earn match point. SBU was looking to tie the set but an error gave the Saints the set and match.
