The teams traded the lead but Rockhurst built a 44-40 advantage at the 14:13 mark. The Saints took the lead after making five free throws. The Hawks hit a bucket to go back in front 46-45 until the Saints reeled off eight straight points. Trey Redd converted a driving layup, and JT Morgan powered up inside for a bucket. Walker and Vass both sank jumpers as the Saints led 53-46 with 8:14 to play.

After a Vass layup, Morgan sank a 3-pointer from the top of the key, and Williams drilled a corner triple to make it 67-64. The Hawks hit two free throws for a 69-64 edge with 1:19 to play but those would prove to be their final points. Walker started the late run with a wing 3-pointer, and Morgan sank one free throw to trim the deficit to 69-68.
