Fayette, Iowa - The Maryville wrestling team was looking to defeat a nationally-ranked team for the third time this season but No. 15 Upper Iowa kept the Saints at bay 31-7. The dual was the first between the teams a league members as this is UIU's first season competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

The Peacocks opened the dual with a fall and a narrow 4-2 decision.
Kody Ketchum battled the No. 5 ranked wrestler at 141 but was edged out 6-3. UIU again took a slim win by a 3-2 margin at 149. After a walkover at 157, Upper Iowa's Chase Luensman, who is No. 2 in the nation, took the match at the 165 classification.

The Peacocks again took close decisions at 174 and 184.
Jeremiah Larson rolled to a 15-1 major at 197 to earn the Saints four team points. He had two takedowns and two near falls to jump to the early lead in the first period and cruised to the victory.
Ryan Herman took the lead in his heavyweight match with an escape and added a takedown to jump in front to ease his way to a 5-2 decision.

The Saints continue GLVC action as they head to Quincy Saturday, Jan. 27, for a 6 p.m. clash. Â
