LEBANON, Ill. – Despite outshooting McKendree 12-2 and controlling the pace for much of the match, the Maryville University men's soccer team had to settle for a 0-0 draw Friday night against the No. 7-ranked McKendree Bearcats on Friday night.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints (5-4-2, 5-2-1 GLVC) applied consistent pressure throughout the contest, but the McKendree goalkeeper stood tall, making four critical saves to deny Maryville the breakthrough.
Yayo Mutombo led the charge for the Saints with three shots, two of which were on target, but Herluf proved impenetrable.
Â
Maryville's defense was equally solid, as
Steen Nielsen was largely untested in goal, with McKendree managing just two shots. The Saints' backline, led by
Carl Norby and
Lukas Molander, kept the Bearcats ensuring Nielsen didn't need to make a single save.
Â
The Saints had several near misses, including a strike from
Magnus Buschmeier that was parried away in the 50th minute and a late effort from Louis LeBars that rattled the crossbar in the 82nd minute.

UP NEXT
