Three Saints Record 13 Kills Apiece As Saints Down Indianapolis 3-1

Indianapolis – A trio of Maryville players recorded 13 kills each as the Saints volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 victory at Indianapolis. Maryville won its fourth straight Great Lakes Valley Conference match with a 25-17, 12-25, 25-20, 25-19 decision as Ella Brinkmann, Hanna Dressing and Emma Hoing all had a Baker's Dozen of kills. During the fourth set, Taylor Hasbrook broke the program's all-time record for digs with the 2,053rd dig of her career.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Up 12-10 in the opening set, the Saints took advantage of two UIndy miscues and scored three straight points to earn some separation. The Greyhounds got as close as 17-13 but Maryville answered with three consecutive points. Josey Wahlers had a kill, and Ella Domian followed. An Ella Brinkmann ace put the Saints up 20-13 and closed out the set 25-17.

In set two, the Greyhounds had their best hitting percentage of the match, while the Saints had their lowest as UIndy tied the match at 1-1. Maryville responded by scoring five of the first six points in the third set. The hosts tied the set at 5-all but the Saints picked up two kills from Makenna Brauman to retake an 8-5 edge. The Saints held a narrow advantage until back-to-back kills by Brinkmann and Wahlers built a 20-16 margin. Hoing and Brinkmann had consecutive kills to take the set 25-20.

UIndy tallied the first point of set four before the Saints roared back in front with five straight as Domian's kill made it 5-1. Maryville held on to a narrow lead as neither team scored more than two straight points. The Saints were still up 21-17 before Hoing sandwiched two kills around one by Brinkmann to reach match point. The Greyhounds saved two but Dressing drilled in a kill to end it 25-19.
Dressing hit .478, while Brinkmann had a double-double with 18 digs to go along with her 13 kills. The victory was the first for the Saints in Indianapolis.
