ST. LOUIS – After 90 minutes of action, the score between the No. 2-seeded Maryville Saints and the No. 7-seeded Illinois Springfield Prairie Stars sat at 2-2. That changed just four minutes later as
Mason Crew sealed the deal for the Saints off a
Bryce Glisson corner, punching the Saints ticket to the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals at Creve Coeur Park.
Â
It is the fourth game winner of the season for Crew and eighth of his career. The theatrics aren't a new appearance for Crew as it's his second career postseason game winner, having previously sealed the deal against Wisconsin-Parkside in the NCAA tournament just a year ago.
Â
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
Just as quickly as the game started, the Saints grabbed the lead.
Sebastian Weitlaner in just the third minute of action, took a pass from Crew and Glisson and steered the ball into the back of the net, the third of the year for Weitlaner, and the eighth of his career.
Â
Â
But just as quickly as you can get a lead in the GLVC, you can lose one. Just seven minutes later, the Prairie Stars responded with a goal of their own, mirroring the back and forth action from the 2-2 result between the Saints and the Stars from earlier in the season.
Â
First-half action continued as head coach
Adam Hall's old squad fought with some added motivation, as they rattled off three more shots on goal before
Lukas Molander could respond for the Saints. A deflected shot by Glisson was in the perfect spot for Molander who slammed it in for a 2-1 Maryville lead.
Â
Â
But, as they did before, the Prairie Stars responded, this time taking 10 minutes to grab the equalizer. That score held through the rest of second half, despite seven shots for the Saints and four for the Prairie Stars. That left it all to OT where Crew netted the golden goal.

UP NEXT
