Williamsville, Ill. – The Maryville volleyball team saw its seven-match winning streak end in the quarterfinals of the 2024 GLVC Tournament by hot-hitting Indianapolis Friday. The Saints dropped sets by scores of 17-25, 25-16, 18-25, 16-25 as UIndy had a .297 hitting percentage. Ella Domian hit .321 for the match with 11 kills, while Ella Brinkmann recorded her eighth straight double-double with 12 kills and 20 digs. Taylor Hasbrook had a match-high 24 digs, while Taylor Reynolds finished with 22 assists.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Saints were down just 6-4 in the first set but the Greyhounds scored six straight points. Brinkmann notched a kill to end the UIndy run but Maryville fell behind by double digits and never got closer than five points the rest of the set.
 
The Saints had their best hitting mark of the match in set two at .333 to tie the match. Tied at 1-1, Josey Wahlers had a kill that was the first of three straight during a 6-0 run. After a UIndy error, Brinkmann and Domian put down consecutive kills for a 7-1 advantage. Maryville kept the edge and was leading 17-12 before scoring five straight. After a UIndy service error, Grace Graham had a kill to start the run. Hasbrook sandwiched service aces around a block by Hanna Dressing and Graham as the Saints built a 22-12 cushion. A kill by Graham gave the Saints the 25-16 lead.
 
Maryville led 8-6 in the third set before UIndy took the lead with five straight points. Dressing notched back-to-back kill to pull the Saints within 11-10. However, the Greyhounds scored nine of the next 10 points to take command. The Saints made a late push with a 4-0 to cut the deficit to 23-18 but UIndy held on.
 
Looking to extend the match, the Saints fell behind in the fourth set 6-1. Maryville chipped away at the deficit and closed to 7-5 on a Brinkmann ace. The Saints were only down 15-13 but UIndy scored four of the next five points and closed out the match.
