Men’s Soccer’s Season Ends In NCAA Tournament

ST. LOUIS – The 2024 Maryville men's soccer season has come to a close in the NCAA tournament as the Saints fell to the No. 6-seeded Findlay Oilers 3-2.

Magnus Buschmeier and Sebastian Weitlaner both recorded goals in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Oilers struck first, despite plentiful opportunities early for the Saints, etching the go-ahead in the 29th minute of play. That lead evaporated nearly as fast as Findlay got it, with Buschmeier returning a blocked shot into the back of the net just a minute later.

The deadlock sat until the 51st minute, where Weitlaner recorded his fourth goal of the year, capitalizing on a deep ball by Alberto Di Pierri.

The early missed opportunities came back to bite the Saints as they watched their lead dwindle away at the 83rd minute of play as the Oilers were the recipients of a fortunate rebound off the far post, evening the game. With just minutes left, the Oilers delivered a heartbreaking goal to end the Saints' season.
