EDMOND, Okla. – Maryville softball fell to 0-4 to begin the 2024 campaign after a pair of losses to ranked opponents on Saturday afternoon. The Saints lost to No. 19 Rogers State University 6-2 before a narrow 2-1 loss to No. 3 University of Central Oklahoma in game two.

Rogers State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a pair of RBI hits from Bridgett Morales and Callie Yellin. They added another in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded walk.

Now trailing 4-0 in the top of the fifth,
Jenna Kosnoff and
Kylie Swinney both singled and a sacrifice bunt moved the runners over.
Kaitlyn Wagner walked to load the bases for freshman
Cailynn Gdowski who drove in the first run of her career with a ground ball. The Hillcats got the next batter to fly out, however, ending the jam.

RSU added two more in the bottom of the fifth, but Maryville continued to scratch away at the lead. In the top of the seventh,
Isabella Garcia pinch-hit and drove in Kosnoff to make it 6-2. Rogers State finished off the inning and the game with a ground ball in the next batter to secure a 6-2 win.

Chayse Ramey took the rubber in game two for the Saints and entered a pitcher's duel with the Bronchos' Jordyn Pipkin. The senior retired six of the first seven batters she faced and got run support in the third.

Addison Koth opened up the top of the third with a double down the right-field line and was pinch ran for by
Brooklyn Moore. Two batters later,
Emily Corona singled up the middle to bring in the game's first run.

A solo home run tied the game for UCO in the bottom of the fourth, but Ramey responded with scoreless fifth and sixth innings. Still tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh, the Bronchos hit consecutive doubles to win the game with a 2-1 walk-off win.

Ramey picked up a complete game in the loss, going six innings allowing two earned with two strikeouts.
