Saints Edged Out by Two Ranked Teams to End UCO/OC Tournament

EDMOND, Okla. – Maryville softball fell to 0-4 to begin the 2024 campaign after a pair of losses to ranked opponents on Saturday afternoon. The Saints lost to No. 19 Rogers State University 6-2 before a narrow 2-1 loss to No. 3 University of Central Oklahoma in game two.

No. 19 Rogers State University Recap
Rogers State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on a pair of RBI hits from Bridgett Morales and Callie Yellin. They added another in the bottom of the second on a bases-loaded walk.

Now trailing 4-0 in the top of the fifth, Jenna Kosnoff and Kylie Swinney both singled and a sacrifice bunt moved the runners over. Kaitlyn Wagner walked to load the bases for freshman Cailynn Gdowski who drove in the first run of her career with a ground ball. The Hillcats got the next batter to fly out, however, ending the jam.

RSU added two more in the bottom of the fifth, but Maryville continued to scratch away at the lead. In the top of the seventh, Isabella Garcia pinch-hit and drove in Kosnoff to make it 6-2. Rogers State finished off the inning and the game with a ground ball in the next batter to secure a 6-2 win.
