Tiemann Fires in Nine Goals as Saints Handle Northern Michigan 25-10

Marquette, Mich. – In a battle of unbeaten squads, the Maryville women's lacrosse team used a big second quarter and handed Northern Michigan its first loss 25-10. Sydney Tiemann fired in nine goals, the second-highest total in her Maryville career, and had one assist for 10 points. Helen Bae boosted the offensive attack and finished with nine points on six goals and three assists. The victory is the 100th in head coach Melissa Gyllenborg's collegiate coaching career.
 
Northern Michigan recap
Reagan Rukstad opened the game with a goal but the Wildcats equalized. Jessie Hynes fired in consecutive goals to start a 6-0 burst by the Saints. Bae notched a player-up goal before Chloe Elliott scored for Maryville. Bae then completed a hat trick by the end of the quarter with back-to-back free position scores. The Wildcats answered with four straight before Tiemann notched her first goal of the game. The Saints led 8-6 after the first quarter.
 
Bae opened the second frame with a score before Tiemann scored nine seconds later. After another draw control win, 17 seconds elapsed before Tiemann fired in a free-position goal. Rukstad sandwiched two goals around yet another Tiemann score as the Saints surged to a 14-6 lead. NMU pulled one score back before Tiemann deposited three consecutive goals as Maryville took a 17-7 lead into halftime.
 
Tiemann continued her torrid pace and rocketed in two more goals to begin the third quarter. Elliott found the back of the net late in the third as the Saints grabbed a 20-9 edge going into the fourth quarter. The Saints only allowed one goal in the fourth as they finished with 25 goals for the third consecutive game. Jessie Hynes recorded four goals and two assists, while Reagan Rukstad picked up four goals, too.
