Indianapolis - The Maryville wrestling team was in Indianapolis for the Greyhound Duals Saturday. The Saints lost to No. 23 Glenville State 30-17, but shut out Kentucky Wesleyan 47-0 and rolled by Montevallo 46-4.
Glenville took the first two matches before
Kody Ketchum notched a 17-5 major at 141. The Saints would take back-to-back matches at 165 and 174 to close the gap. Ritter had a 14-5 major at 165, while Thorpe followed with an injury win at 174. Heavyweight
Ryan Herman had the final win with a 2-1 decision.
Sam Shafer had a 12-3 major at 125, and
Evan Binder had a 16-0 tech fall at 133. Ketchum had a walkover at 141, while Collin Reif posted another tech fall by a 16-0 count. At 157,
Luke Ebers posted a 5-1 decision, and Ritter notched a fall at 2:17 in his 165 bout. Thorpe followed with a pin in 2:21, while John Gholson notched a 2-0 win.
Jeremiah Larson had a forfeit win at 197, and Herman ended the match with a 2-0 decision.
Shafer pinned his 125 foe in 2:35 before Montevallo won its only match of the contest. Ketchum shut out his opponent in a 17-0 tech fall in the 141 classification, and Reif rolled to a 17-1 tech fall at 149. Eber had a 4-2 decision at 157, while Ritter dominated with a pin in just 1:29. Thorpe had an injury victory, and Gholson worked a 6-5 decision in the 184 class. Larson and Herman closed the day with falls at 1:35 and 2:34, respectively.
The Saints have a few individual participants in the Greyhound Open Sunday, Feb. 4, but the Saints will host the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships Sunday, Feb. 18, with three matches on top.
