Saints Finish Four-Game Sweep of Parkside on Sunday

ST. LOUIS – Maryville University softball earned a series sweep against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside with a pair of wins on Sunday. The Saints are now 8-15 after winning the first four home games of the 2024 campaign.

Game One
Maryville tallied the first runs of the morning off of a Melanie Nelson single to the left side, scoring Mandi Lenon in the second inning. The Saints then tallied the next run of the game in the fifth inning from another Nelson single, driving in Emily Corona to make the score 2-0. Parkside's lone run of the game came in the top of the seventh inning.

The Saints' defense punctuated the game in the top of the seventh with two incredible defensive plays. Brooklyn Moore tracked down a shot down the left field line while Erin Wurst sealed the victory with a diving catch at third base.

Mercedes Delgado started in the circle for the Saints and threw six innings, earning two strikeouts and only allowing one run. Emily Senjan earned the save for the Saints, retiring two crucial batters for a 2-1 victory in game one.

Game Two
In Sunday's second game, the softball squad started the scoring in the fourth inning off a Kylie Swinney triple to right, scoring Jenna Kosnoff and making the Saints lead 1-0. Parkside then put one in the scoring column in the top of the fifth to tie the game. Maryville followed with two runs in the bottom of the inning off RBI from Corona and Payton Deakin. Up 3-1, Parkside responded with one run in the sixth, making the score 3-2.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Maryville extended their lead to 6-2 off an error from Parkside and a Corona sacrifice fly to left. The Rangers pulled the match close in the top of the seventh with three runs to make it 6-5. With the bases loaded and two outs, Maryville starter Chayse Ramey finished off a complete game with a groundout to second base to seal up a 6-5 final. Ramey earned her sixth win of the season while striking out for hitters.
