St. Charles, Mo. – The Maryville women's basketball team suffered through a cold-shooting effort and saw its season come to an end 78-59 to No. 1 seed Lewis in the semifinals of the 2024 Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
Carsyn Fearday led the Saints with 17 points, while
Karlee Feldman had 14 points, while
Haidyn Pitsch finished with 10 points.
Gracie Stugart hauled down 10 rebounds for Maryville. The Saints only shot 28.8 percent from the field, while Lewis sank half of its attempts.

The Flyers hit their first five shots and jumped to a 10-3 lead. The Saints made a charge back and answered with an 11-2 burst. Fearday started the run with two free throws and a layup. After a Lewis bucket, Feldman powered up for a layup, and Pitsch drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Fearday tacked on two more free throws to cap the burst and give the Saints their first lead at 14-12. Lewis tied the game but a late
Faith Hawthorne bucket handed the Saints a 16-14 lead after the first.

Lewis opened the second quarter with the first 12 points as the Saints were unable to find the mark. Fearday and Hawthorne converted back-to-back buckets as Maryville closed the gap to 26-20. Stugart made two free throws as the Saints were still only down 30-22 with two minutes to play. However, the Flyers scored the final nine points of the half to take a 39-22 margin into the break.

Maryville outscored the Flyers by five and chopped the margin down to 47-33 midway through the third after Feldman sank a turnaround jumper in the lane. The deficit stood at 56-41 heading into the final quarter.

Fearday scored the first two points of the final stanza as the Saints trimmed the gap down to 56-43 with eight minutes remaining. Hawthorne converted two at the line, and Mussorici's deep wing 3-pointer pulled the Saints to within 58-48. The Saints made a stop but had a 3-pointer rattle out. Maryville had one final push and a Pitsch 3-pointer from the corner dropped the deficit to 66-56 with 3:58 to play. However, the Flyers sank six consecutive free throws and held the Saints off the rest of the way.
