Manchester, N.H. – The Maryville field hockey team nearly pulled off the biggest upset in program history but No. 5 Saint Anselm scored twice late in the fourth quarter to rally past the Saints 3-1. The Saints outshot the Hawks 8-6 and were level on penalty corners with six apiece.

How it Happened:
The Saints earned the first penalty corner of the game and that led to
Delanie Winkelmann's shot that was saved.
Denise Van der Spuy collected the rebound and fired in a shot to the lower left corner for a 1-0 at the 10:58 mark. Maryville led 1-0 after the first quarter and held it until midway through the second. On its first penalty corner, Saint Anselm converted to tie the score 23:29 into the contest. Neither team put a serious attempt on goal as the first half ended deadlocked at 1-1.

The Saints dominated the third quarter and had three straight penalty corners but could not find the back of the cage. Maryville had an opportunity to take the lead but misfired on a penalty stroke. The Saints had two more penalty corners and put six shots on frame as the contest moved into the fourth still deadlocked at 1-1.

The Saints had yet another shot turned aside in the opening minute but could not take the lead. Maryville was called for a green card and the Hawks took the lead for the first time after a penalty corner with eight minutes remaining. The Saints pressed for the equalizer but instead the Hawks tacked on another score with 6:18 to play. Saint Anselm was bolstered by the goaltending of Sidney Falterer who slowed the Maryville attack by making seven saves.
