Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Dominates Rockhurst, Moves to 2-0 in GLVC-Action

ST. LOUIS – 9-0, that is the magical ratio for Maryville women's soccer as they have begun GLVC-action in dominant fashion. Five days removed from blanking SBU 5-0, the Saints did it again, clipping the wings of the Rockhurst Hawks in a 4-0 victory.

It was the usual suspects in the first half for the Saints as Ashlyne Hunt and Elsa Nilson-Hurtig found the back of the net. The second half saw the first goals of the season for Nika Vemdal and Allison Estanich.

Nilson-Hurtig tallied four points on the day, assisting on both Hunt's and Estanich's goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pressure, pressure and more pressure was the game for the Saints as they were all over the ball in the early goings of the contest as within just two minutes of action, Lexi Gentry already had taken a shot on goal.

That trend continued as the Saints took three more shots before the eventual goal by Hunt at the 21st minute. Just five minutes later, Nilson-Hurtig added her own, ending the first with a two-goal lead.

The Saints came out of the break continuing to control the pace, hammering seven more shots as net before Vemdal scored her first of the season.

With just six minutes left in the match, Estanich got in on the fun, leaving the score 4-0.

SAINTS SOUND
Head Coach Lori Lawson on the early success in GLVC play…
"Rockhurst is always a battle, so the team was really pumped up, ready to go. This was a big GLVC challenge, I'm really, really happy with the way that they came with lots of energy… we knew the conditions were going to be pretty hot and pretty tough at times, but I think when we bring that energy and that fire, that's when we find success."

Gentry on the support from Saints Nation…
"It was a great win, but it's awesome to see this home crowd and have all the support for us and to work hard in front of them and to get that result that we needed to."

UP NEXT
The Saints will hit the road as they travel to Liberty, Mo. for a road-GLVC bout with William Jewell. Maryville and the Cardinals will begin at 12 p.m.
