ST. LOUIS – The Maryville women's soccer team continued it's early-season defensive brilliance on a rain-soaked Friday afternoon, capturing a 2-0 win over the visiting Missouri S&T Miners. It marks the fourth contest in a row where the Saints have blanked the opposition and continues their multi-goal streak that lasts all season.
Â
Elsa Nilson-Hurtig and
Emily Doane were the goal scorers for the contest while
Agnes Vilen picked up the fourth clean sheet of her young career.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
The game was dictated by the Saints the entire first half, with the number that stands out being 13-0. That being the shot ratio as the Saints peppered the Miners keeper with attempts one after another.
Â
Despite the numerous chances, it took until the 36th minute of the contest where a ball played from
Nika Vemdal resulted in Nilson-Hurtig's sixth goal of the season. It's also her fourth straight game with a goal.
Â
Coming out of the break, Maryville kept the foot on the pedal, eventually adding another goal, this time by Doane, with Nilson-Hurtig snagging an assist.
